How Did Johnny Depp Fall for Vanessa Paradis? The Answer May Surprise You!

For those of you who have not read The Rules -- the book upon which my blog is based -- authors Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider maintain that a man knows when he must have a woman from the moment he sees her. The book includes anecdotes from married men who say that "I saw her from across the room and knew she was my wife." This is not an exaggeration. Ask your grandparents how they met and you'll likely to hear a similar story.

I bring this up because the same holds true in modern romance. RadarOnline featured an article where Johnny Depp, 48, told the BBC about the "magic moment he met his future partner and mother of his two kids Vanessa Paradis. They met it 1998, he laid eyes on the beauty at France's Hotel Costes.

"She was wearing a dress with an exposed back and I saw that back and that neck, and then she turned around and I saw those eyes, and -- boom! -- my life as a single man was done. You have this feeling. I can’t really explain what it was, but I had it when I met her. I saw her across a room and thought, 'What’s happening to me?'" The two met through a mutual acquaintance, and the rest is history.

Such a sweet story! While I normally examine relationships under the "is he going to marry you?" lens, Johnny and Vanessa not being married doesn't seem to matter much. It makes me think she doesn't care either way. I say this, not for initially feeling this way about about her, but because after all of these years he continues to recount their first meeting with such loving detail.

Two points -- it always helps to look great when you go out. What woman wouldn't want their future husband to remember how drawn he was to her because of her pretty dress and undeniable sex appeal? A man who wants to sleep with you is a good thing! Second, Johnny's story proves that women don't have to try hard to get a man's attention. A man either sees you and simply must have you or he doesn't. Women can save themselves so much time and heartache if they trust in The Rules.
